The Cookie Jar
In the beauty of each step I take, I experience
myself closer to the Divine. She walks in the Light beside me and I am grateful
for the Abundances and Joys that are showered upon me. And for
all, I give thanks. Rev. Dr. Audrey Reed.
Systems and money go hand in hand. I have a basic system that
has been used by 1000s of seminar attendees and consulting clients. It
works! It is the measure of our gains, achieved one baby step
at a time.. This system is a way for you to measure and assess
your progress. Sometimes it feels like we have not moved from square
one until we observe where we were standing when we started.
The system tracks your progress through
the microscopic steps of your moneylife.
Our culture trains us to recognize the BIG changes,
the fast changes and the complex changes, it does not allow us
the luxury of the
impact of the small changes. I assert that small changes have
a stilling – lasting effect. The “wham bam” techniques of our fast
and furious world do not allow time for the newness to get into
our bones and become our nature.
- Identify the new behavior you want learn – Let’s
use the cookie
jar as the example.
- Take in the information – books, tapes, cds,
or take a seminar, etc.
- Practice and track (tracking is the secret
ingredient). Keep
a journal or track the behavior on a spreadsheet. Decide how
and what you want to track.
Example - each day track how much money you
put in the cookie jar. Tracking is observing the behavior. Observing how often and
how much you have chosen to put in the cookie. It is not about
right or wrong. Tracking and practice allow you to see how the
muscle of saving/intention becomes stronger.
Do the tracking for at least 32 days. This
will give you a good baseline, so you can see how you are developing
microscopically.
- Natural Being- Practicing implements new behaviors into habits
that become part of our nature. The goal is to have the behavior
become your nature; effortlessly, gracefully part of the natural
way being.
Tool #14
The Cookie Jar
Tool #14: Do you pay yourself first? The concept is fairly
foreign to us. Women especially will tell you that they have to
pay all the bills first. We make do with what is left over. We
share with others - but do we share with ourselves?
Save for what you want tomorrow - today.
Paying Yourself First is divine intervention. It is Universal
Law - like attracts like. The magic of money magnets; money
attracts money.
Claire, the daughter of one of my seminar students,
who is six, tells me, “Mommy’s always too busy for me. She’s too cranky for
herself - she needs more naps.” As adults we need to nurture
ourselves abundant.
Rule
One – Take care of yourself
so you can care for others
Simple Math:
If we were with our best friend and had three
cookies, we’d at
least offer one of them to our friend. Well, offer some percentage
of your paycheck to yourself, as your best friend. See yourself
being nurturing and generous with yourself. This simple action
will change one money/nurturing strategy in your life.
Money Naming:
Start with whatever percentage you can, but
start and build it into 10% of all money received goes into your
cookie jar…save it for
something that you intend for yourself. Give strength to the
intention by naming it. The money naming gives focus
to the line of your intention and rigor to the practice of nurturing
yourself. Try it out (32 days) track the money growing into your money
naming (intention).
Your Cookie Jar
Find yourself a jar, a container, or cookie
jar. Decorate it. Give
it a name, an intention, (you are reading a news letter about stocks
and investment clubs, use that as your intention for your cookie
jar) and choose an amount to fill the intention.
Money naming is important. It let’s
the flow of abundance be energized towards your desired manifestation
on the
physical level.
Recipe for success:
It doesn’t matter the percentage that you begin with…start
today.
(I keep a slip of paper in the cookie jar
with the total amount of money- being manifested. I add in each amount that is put
in the jar so that I know and the energy flow knows when I’ve
reached the intended amount.
I straighten it out, unfold and refold it and
count it. It is
a loving action of growth, like watering and touching the leaves
of flowers and plants. Sometimes when I count it, I am surprised
to find more $$$$ than I thought was in the Cookie Jar.)
Tool Story
One of my partners, Alice, and her husband
were saving for a down payment on a new home. They knew about how much it would
cost and began to “cookie jar” in the form of putting 10% of all
money that flowed into their lives in a drawer. Her husband would
put all the change from his pockets in the drawer each night, as
well. Alice called the nighttime change ritual, Daily Money
Ex Change.
About two years later, they had the down payment.
Take the first step to what you want! It does
take time, and so what else is new?
Mini-Tool
Part of the money Attractor’s line of energy or recognition is
to keep it all in cash. This practice keeps the flow in the energy
line.
